J. Wayne Firebaugh, Jr., CPA, CFPR® CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Practitioner Certified Medical Planner
Wayne Firebaugh is a Certified Public Accountant and CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Practitioner. He is a member of the National Institute of Certified College Planners and the only Certified College Planning Specialist in southwestern Virginia. Wayne began his practice nearly ten years ago and now serves as the president of Wayne Firebaugh, Inc., a Registered Investment Advisory firm. He does not receive commissions from the sale of any investment or insurance products. As a fee-only planner, he provides objective advice to families looking for better ways to invest and pay for college.
Prior to starting his own practice, Wayne was a Manager in the Financial Advisory Services consulting practice of Coopers and Lybrand, a predecessor firm of Pricewaterhouse Coopers and one of the world's largest accounting and consulting firms. During his tenure, he developed business plans, negotiated complex financial agreements, and provided expert witness testimony on the behalf of his clients.
Wayne served on the board of the Central Virginia chapter of the Financial Planning Association and was a founding member of the Blue Ridge subchapter. His articles on college funding have appeared in such magazines as Physicians Money Digest, the Virginia Society of CPA's magazine Disclosures, and Physician's Practice. Wayne has been a repeat speaker at Virginia Tech's annual Accounting & Auditing Conference for CPA's on the topics of retirement and college planning. He has also served as an adjunct faculty member teaching courses on investments at an area college. Wayne is the chair of the technical committee for the National College Advocacy Group (NCAG). The NCAG is a non-profit organization of academic planners, financial advisors, and university representatives who seek to assist families and students successfully negotiate the complex process of applying for and financing a college education. Wayne attended the University of Virginia's McIntire School of Commerce where he earned a Bachelor of Science with a concentration in accounting degree. He currently lives in Roanoke, Virginia with his wife and daughter.
